Castlemartyr GAA
Clean Up Day
Cork GAA has confirmed details of this year’s Community Clean-Up Day, which is scheduled to take place on this Saturday, April 12th. This follows the success of last year’s inaugural event, which saw 3,000 participants from almost 100 clubs take part. Once again, Castlemartyr GAA Club will be part of this county wide initiative, and we are calling on our members to come out and help on Saturday.
Hurlers First Loss
Aghabullogue 1-18 Castlemartyr 1-14
Our intermediate hurlers suffered their first Division 5 league defeat of the season, when Aghabollogue triumphed on a 1-18 to 1-14 score line on Sunday morning last in Coachford.
After an even first half with Brian Lawton prominent, the reds trailed by the minimum - 0-12 to 1-8 . Barry Lawton's well taken 18th minute goal, a five point Mike Kelly contribution along with a crucial goal saving block by full back James Lawton were features of that opening half.
However, despite the advantage of the wind after the break, Castlemartyr never reached the same level and the first half chances, which indicated that more goals might follow, never became reality. Brian Smiddy's important smothering save and lively contributions from subs Andrew Kelly and Jack McGann failed to alter the overall balance.
Erin's Own are next on our list on Easter Saturday at 2pm in Ballinacurra.

Junior Hurling League Div 1
Castlemartyr 2-14 Carrigtwohill 1-29
Despite a first minute goal from Darragh Cashman and some well taken early points by Andrew Kelly, Castlemartyr found themselves chasing the game soon after against a smart Carrigtwohill outfit in last evening's home fixture. The "reds" trailed by 0-16 to to 1-8 at half time - a feature of that period was Carrig's high percentage of shooting accuracy - as they registered a string of well taken points, with Patrick Walsh prominent..The gap stood at five on 43 minutes when Cormac Lynch broke free on the left hand side of the goal and applied a fine finish to raise a green flag and leave us right back in the mix.
But the visitors, just like in the first half, responded quickly after conceding a goal, replying with a sequence of seven unanswered points to take the game out of our reach. In fact, Andrew Kelly's free on 56 minutes and a point from play at the death by impressive sub Conor Ronayne were the only scores recorded by the hosts in the closing quarter.
