Football Win
- A really encouraging display by our footballers as they defeated Lisgoold by 1-18 to 1-11 in Sunday's home game in the Amarenco Division 1 League clash. On the front foot from the off,
" the reds" produced their most consistent hour of the campaign to earn a vital first brace of points which keeps them in conversation, with three games remaining.
There was a real summer feel to Sunday's encounter, as Mike Kelly called the tune for the winners, turning in a top class show in what was a very fine all-around team performance. The hosts played some excellent attacking football and were good value for the seven points winning margin.
Thye led 1-8 to 0-3 after 21 minutes, but had to withstand an impressive period by Lisgoold either side of the break, which saw the visitors row in the advantage to just the minimum early in the second half. Crucially, though, Castlemartyr responded very positively and reopened a decent gap by continuing to play some smart football.
Jamie Stack, impressive in a new role at right half back, set the tone for the day with two fine early points, which had Castlemartyr on parity at 0-2 each inside the eight minutes. Then, a run of scores followed, many the products of fine team work. Eoghan Martin, Mike Kelly and Billy McGann had all pointed before Darragh Joyce crashed home a goal on 18 minutes, following more good approach play.. All going well at this stage with Odhrann Cantwell and Barra O'Tuama particularly strong in their defensive duties.
Mike Kelly's subsequent point and two from Andrew Kelly established an eight point lead. before Lisgoold upped a gear. Darragh Cashman's late first half point being the only interruption to a 1-5 scoring sequence on either side of the break. It was 1-9 to 1-8 in our favour on 34 minutes before we then hit four in a row. Billy McGann, again clocking high mileage, got his second, Jamie (left foot) moved up field for his third and Mike K recorded a brace. Then a crucial moment at the other endon 44 minutes, as netminder Ewan Wimpeeny, whose distribution was impressive all day, made a big save at his near post to deny Lisgoold a second goal.
From there on, Castlemartyr managed the game well in the closing quarter to earn a morale boosting win. It's Youghal away on Saturday week April 12th at 5pm in game five of the league. A home game against Carrigtwohill in late April and a short way trip to Midleton in mid May will wrap up the round robin series.

Hurling in Coachford
A trip to Coachford awaits our intermediate hurlers this coming weekend as we take on early league leaders Aghabullogue in division 5 of the county leagues. Both sides are unbeaten going into this match, which should make for an interesting clash. Throw in on Sunday morning is at 11.30am.
Junior Hurlers
The next engagement of our junior hurlers is the Amarenco JHL1 game against Carrigtwohill at Paddy Walsh Memorial Park on Tuesday of next week - April 8th - at 6.45pm. "The reds" will be hoping to earn their first brace of points of the season.
League Final
Our very best wishes go to Ciaran and the Cork team ahead of Sunday's Allianz League Final against Tipperary at SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh. It should be a great occasion. Of course, the sides are due to reconvene within three weeks at the same venue.
First things first, though - and it would be nice to end what is now a 27 barren spell since the league honours last came to Leeside.
Pitch Repair Work This Evening
Can you spare an hour or two from 6.30pm this evening to help repair our pitch following weekend action?
It's that tricky time of year when the transition takes place from spring to summer - whilst the pitch looks in great shape before matches - there's work to be done following each game on the surface. Please bring your own fork this evening please if possible..
Clean Up Day
Cork GAA has confirmed details of this year’s Community Clean-Up Day which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 12th. This follows the success of last year’s inaugural event, which saw 3,000 participants from almost 100 clubs take part. Once again, Castlemartyr GAA Club will be part of this county wide initiative and we are calling on our members to come out and help on Saturday week.
Cork GAA is the first County Board in the country to undertake such an initiative on this scale and is hoping to increase the number of participants this year. Each club collected an average of 12 to 15 bags of waste last year, consisting mainly of drink cups, wrappers, packaging, plastic bottles, cigarette butts and some green waste.
The Cork GAA Community Clean-Up Day, which is supported by An Taisce, Tidy Towns and Cork City and County Councils, is open to players, coaches, officials and supporters of all ages. Cork GAA is calling on all hurling, football, camogie and ladies football clubs to don their colours and get involved..
