Glenville Notes (24th Mar)

Minors unlucky in narrow defeat.
Glenville 1-06 Erin’s Own 0-12

Our Minor footballers played the second round of their North Division 1 league last Saturday away to Erin’s Own, with the game being fixed for Ballinacurra due to issues with the pitch in Caherlag. It was an extremely windy and miserable morning, and we lost the first battle when Erin’s Own won the toss, unsurprisingly electing to play with the wind in the first half. Given the conditions, both teams managed to play some good football in the first half, with an impressive point from Sean to open the scoring, a peach of a goal from Mike, and a point from Jayden keeping us within touching distance at half time, where we went in six points down, 0-11 to 1-2. Erin’s Own had made the most of the wind, scoring three 2 point efforts from outside the 40m arc, but we felt that the deficit was well within our reach to pull back given the strength of the wind in the second half. However, we found it hard to penetrate a very disciplined Erin’s Own defence and although we had a lot of possession and pegged it back to two points, that was as close as it got, with Erin’s Own scoring a late free and doing a great job winding down the clock to run out winners on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-6. To be fair, Erin’s Own were worthy winners, and there was plenty for our lads to take away to work on over the next few weeks. Team and scorers: C.Sheehan; D.O’Connor, D.O’Neill, A.Casey; C.McHugh, B.Ryan, S.O’Leary (0-1); E.Forde, D.Barry; C.Buckley, M.O’Riordan (1-0), D.McCarthy; Z.Curtin, J.Hennebry (0-5), E.Hartnett; A.Hennessy, L.Guichard, F.Duffy, W.Manley.

U16 Div4 League Result

Glenville 5.12
Mayfield/Gleann Na Laoi 2.06

Glenville got back to winning ways in the u16 div 4 league after an accomplished display against Mayfield/Gleann Na Laoi in Fouhy Park on Sunday afternoon last. On a perfect day for football, Glenville went through the gears well and played good football against a battling Mayfield/Gleann Na Laoi side. Special mention must go to Harry Wain,  scoring 3.04 from the full forward berth. Cillian O Connor getting an opportunist goal and James Forde finishing off the goal scoring with a tidy finish before the break. There were great displays throughout the team, aided by great goalkeeping and distribution from Patrick O Sullivan. Liam Moynihan was very dominant at centre back, but everyone contributed handsomely to the win. The Sheehans, Jack, Aaron and Liam were very solid at the back, along with Conor and Alan who worked their socks off. Dara O Driscoll had a fine game kicking over a wonderful point when returning from injury. James and Callum battled bravely around the middle with James getting forward for some great scores. Billy and James worked very well in the half forward line and Eoghan did very well at centre forward, linking the play very well. Joe and Cillian worked well inside to create the scorer in chief Harry inside with plenty ball. Well done lads on a great win.
Our next game in this league is against Fermoy TBC

U14s Edge Past St Colmcilles in P2 League
Thriller

Our Under-14s faced a highly regarded St.Colmcille's side in the P2 League. After a strong win over Youghal last time out, the team was eyeing back-to-back victories—something we haven’t managed in a while. Playing against the wind in the first half, the boys started brightly and looked full of intent. By halftime, things were looking good. But true to form, they kept things interesting in the second half, not quite building on that solid early momentum and keeping us all on edge until the final whistle. In the end, the lads dug deep and came away with a hard-fought 3-5 to 1-5 win. Next up is Kiltha og in a few weeks’ time. Well done to the team—great effort all round and continued improvement in performance!
