Castlemartyr GAA News
Intermediate Win V Ballygarvan
A strong start laid the foundations for a fine 3-20 to 0-11 win for our intermediate hurlers in Sunday's Division 5 home league fixture against Ballygarvan. Brian Lawton netted an early goal and before the break Billy McGann and captain Mike Kelly had added further green flags to leave Castlemartyr leading by 3-7 to 0-6 at the change of ends, having played against the wind.
The Reds played some excellent hurling, working the ball well with some combined teamwork and the issue was never in doubt after the break with Mike Kelly, Barry Lawton and Eoghan Martin amongst those to add further points. Defenders Darragh Leahy and Conor Whyte were amongst those to stand out with excellent individual displays whilst in attack Barry Lawton and Billy McGann were also in top form.
Overall an encouraging display as the team defended well and created lots of goal chances.

Our next outing is an away game against Aghabullogue on Sunday week April 6th - 11.30am in Coachford. The Mid Cork team are the only side to have maximum points after the second round of fixtures, having beaten Erin's Own 4-18 to 2-12 two weeks ago and then following up with a 0-17 to 1-12 win in Dungourney yesterday. Ballyhea and Milford are keeping us company on three points.
Another interesting test awaits as both sides look to preserve their unbeaten record.
Junior Reversal
No joy unfortunately for our junior team as they suffered a 2-14 to 0-15 reversal later on Sunday in their Amarenco JHL1 home outing against Sarsfield's.. Playing with the wind in the first half, our visitors were seven points to the good at the break ... 2-9 to 0-8, although there were signs of encouragement as the half aged.
Despite a gradual improvement after the resumption, the reds could not turn the game around.
Next up is a visit from Carrigtwohill on Sunday week in round 3 of the league.
