Midleton Notes (20th Mar)
- Mar 20,2025
This week our Club was plunged into sadness with the passing of two great Club men;
Ger Fitzgerald and Daveen O’Brien.
Ger Fitzgerald
Ger passed away after a brave battle with illness bravely borne. He was Midleton to the core, a great leader both on and off the field. Ger played in, captained and managed Midleton teams to County titles as well as acting as a selector on various Cork teams. Ger was extremely pleased when his idea for the monthly coffee morning came to fruition. The gathering of our Club members for a chat and a cuppa on the last Monday of every month was something that he was extremely proud of. His contribution to our Club is immense and will be sustained for many years to come.
We offer our sincere condolences to his wife Kathryn, his 3 daughters Laura, Kim and Jayne, his parents Paddy and Liz, son in law Andrew and the extended Fitzgerald and O’Shea Families.

Daveen O Brien
Daveen O Brien in his 95th year was a great supporter and a Vice President of our Club. Davy hurled with Midleton and was a highly regarded scoring forward that won a County Intermediate medal in 1962. He worked the lands of nearby Carrigshane all his life with his beloved brother John Paul who he is reunited with once again. He was a great huntsman and a master of his pack the Carrigshane harriers.
We offer our sincere condolences to his wife Nancy, daughter Liz, sons Willie and Davy and all the extended O’Brien and Lawton families.
