Glenville Notes (11th Mar)
- Mar 11,2025
Glenville 4-19 Fermoy 1-09
Our U18s kicked off their 2025 campaign this Sunday with a home league game vs. Fermoy on a bright and sunny morning. Jayden got us off the mark with a well taken point before Fermoy scored two in a row. This was followed by a purple patch from Glenville where Jayden scored four points and David added two from centerfield to open up a five-point lead. Fermoy struck back with a penalty before a flurry of scores stretched out the Glenville lead, including two super goals from Billy and Tadhg, leading to a halftime score of 2-11 to 1-3. At the break we were conscious that we had had the benefit of the breeze so we knew the second half would offer a different challenge, particularly as we lost full back Dara to injury at half-time. However, the lads came quickly out of the blocks in the second half, with points from Dave and Louie before Tadhg struck his second goal. Fermoy scored two points either side of a Jayden point before Jayden rounded off a super individual display with a goal to bring his own total to 1-6 for the day. Fermoy finished out the scoring with two excellent two-point efforts, but Glenville were clearly the happier side at the final whistle running out winners on a scoreline of 4-14 to 1-9. Considering a number of players were unavailable this was a very satisfying start to the 2025 season, characterized by some excellent score taking and hard work all over the field. Our next outing is away to Erin’s Own on Saturday March 22nd. Team and scorers: C.Sheehan; A.Casey, D.O’Neill, C.Buckley; C.McHugh (0-1), B.Ryan (1-0), S.O’Leary; E.Forde, D.Barry (0-4); D.McCarthy, T.McCarthy (2-1) , A.Hennessy; L.Guichard (0-2), J.Hennebry (1-6), E.Hartnett; D.O’Connor, Z.Curtin, F.Duffy, W.Manley, G.Fitzgerald.
Scór Sinsear – Glenville were well represented at both the Imokilly and County Trath Na gCeist rounds of Scór Sinsear recently with Brendan Duffy, Pearse Moloney, Tadhg Fitzgerald and Peter Curtin putting pen to paper in the table quiz format for this competition. After a few years of absence from Scór it was great to have the club represented and we look forward to further develop our participation in Scór in the future.
A multimedia table quiz will be held in Kades Kounty on Friday 28th March, this was a great night out when first held a few years back, looking forward to seeing a large turnout at this once again.
U14s
The under 14 boys made the trip to Youghal on Sunday, bringing back great memories of battles past .In particular the 1978 and 79 East cork wins versus Youghal, one-point wins in both final followed by a couple of 'half’ days from school. Great times . The boys shaded it on Sunday too and not a side lock on show! Next up is St. Colmcilles in Glenville who will be fancying themselves for the win on our home patch. Hopefully today will have the lads battle ready for that one and with a bit of luck who knows.
