Our senior A hurlers are out in the first game of the Division three Red FM hurling league versus Mallow on Saturday 8th March at 2 pm at home in Castlelyons with Aidan Hyland, Kilworth on the whistle. The other teams are Ballinhassig, Blackrock, Blarney, Courcey Rovers, Lisgoold, Newcestown, and Russell Rovers. Michael Spillane, Manager, with selectors Sean Leneghan and Ciarán McGann have a reasonable panel training with a few weeks although there are some injuries and lads away. They have the assistance of Eoin Dorgan with strength and conditioning with Pat O’Neill and Robbie O’Leary are on the logistics and hopefully have a coach later.
Our junior hurlers have moved up a grade to division 2 of the East Cork hurling league. They are out against Midleton on Sunday 9th March at 11.30am in Castlelyons. Chris Cotter has taken up as Manager with Daithi Whelan and Ian Barry selectors. We wish both teams the best of luck for the year ahead.

Cork Defeat Kilkenny to remain on course for League and a big 2025.
Diarmuid Healy from neighbouring Lisgoold had a dream first start for the Cork hurlers in front of almost 23,000 on Saturday evening. The former U20 star exuded class scoring 1-5 from play as Cork defeated Kilkenny to put themselves in with a right chance of qualifying for the league final and a good pay day. The pitch was immaculate, and it was a perfect evening for hurling as we started with both silence and applause in tribute to former Cork and Sarsfields hurler Ray Ryan, who died suddenly on Tuesday. His brother Pat, the Cork Manager, took the sideline wearing a black armband in Ray’s honour. We were treated to a great game with both sides giving it everything. On a team of Rebel heroes great to see our own man Niall O’Leary making a mighty contribution and, Pat Horgan, that Glen boy who banged in 2-9 against Castlelyons last year ending up on 0-10. Roll on the championship.
Facilities Development Programme.
The Steering Committee are continuing to work on the facilities. The good news here is that the group have now prepared proposals for the construction of toilets at the back of the Stand. Club Secretary Con Lawlor sketched out a design and presented to the steering group which was accepted. This proposal will be brought to the next club meeting for agreement, but planning and other details means it will still take some time.
Don’t forget to pay you membership and join the Club.
Club membership is overdue at this stage, and we welcome new members as well please. We are using the ‘Foireann.ie’ website again this year. Foireann allows you to register as a member of Castlelyons GAA club online and to choose the membership fee you wish to pay. Fees are as follows: Adult nonplayer €50, Adult Player €100, Adult OAP/Social Member €20, Student Player €80. You can still pay the old-fashioned way as well. Just contact one of the club officers or club registrar Marie Barry. Being a member of the club entitles you to being in the draw for All Ireland tickets, text messages, etc. This year things are looking great for Cork. They were a bit unlucky in 2024 in the final and are showing massive early promise for 2025 already so you could be heading for Croke Park and being a member of our Club could help put a ticket in the pocket.
Leah Hallahan on Cork Ladies Football Team.
Congratulations to Leah Hallihan, Castlelyons who was part of the Cork Ladies Football Squad for last Saturday’s game versus Roscommon in the Páirc. She came on and scored a point. Leah plays with Bride Rovers who had Sarah Murphy in goals and, of course, Katie Quirke, an outstanding performer at corner forward.

SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh is to host the inaugural Cork Super Cup on July 8th, 2025, when current Scottish Premiership Champions Celtic FC travel to take on Cork City FC. The Cork Super Cup is a joint initiative between Cork GAA and sports marketing agency Druid Sport to bring another record-breaking mid-summer event to the stadium.

The fixture is expected to bring a significant boost to the local economy and hospitality trade, with an anticipated sellout crowd. The organisers of the Cork Super Cup 2025 will be engaging with local businesses to create a unique atmosphere for visitors to the city. It’s estimated that the economic return from the fixture could be in the region of €6 million.
