Glenville open Football League with strong win
Glenville 4-11 (23)
Glanworth 1-4 (7)
The 2025 McCarthy Insurance Group Football Leagues got underway last weekend and Glenville opened their campaign with an impressive win over Glanworth in Glenville on Sunday last.
Glenville opened strongly with a Ciaran O’Leary point which he followed with a further goal and two points (the two points coming from Glanworth’s lapse in concentration in failing to keep three men in the opposition half, resulting in 13m frees). Colin O’Keeffe added Glenville’s fifth score before Glanworth finally opened their account in the 16th minute with a point from free. This was to prove to be the final score in the first half with both teams failing to convert scoring opportunities in the second quarter, with the first half ending on a scoreline of Glenville 1-4 to Glanworth 0-1.
Glanworth started the second half with a point from a free in the 32nd minute. Glenville responded immediately with a superb Josh Cooke goal to widen the margin to eight points. Glanworth got a goal in the 36th minute before Eanna Fitzgerald scored a brilliantly struck two-point score from outside the arc. Glenville now had settled into the game and were much more controlled and efficient. Colin O’Keeffe added his second point before man of the match, Ciaran O’Leary, hit a second purple patch, scoring 2-1 in three minutes. Liam Foley added two points from play to increase the margin to 17 points before Glanworth got a point. Ciaran O’Leary got Glenville’s final score of the game, a point from a free on the 51st minute, The remaining 10 minutes saw Glanworth score one more point. The scoreboard showed Glenville 4-11 to Glanworth 1-4 when referee Canice Walsh blew the final whistle.

Glenville vs. Aghada
On a perfect evening for football, Glenville hosted Aghada on their excellent pitch for what was always going to be a tough battle. These two sides have had plenty of tight encounters over the years, and this one was no different. From the throw-in, both teams showed great determination, with strong tackling and some fine scores at either end. Aghada started well, moving the ball quickly and taking some well-worked points. Glenville, however, weren’t going to let them pull away and responded with a few great scores of their own. The second half saw the game open up, with both sides pushing hard. Aghada looked to have the edge as the clock ticked down, but Glenville never gave up. With the game on the line, they found an extra gear, launching attack after attack. Then, in the dying moments, Glenville struck—finding the net with a late rallying goal to secure a dramatic draw. A fantastic game of football, played in great spirit, and a fair result.
U16s continue winning ways
Glenville U16s continued their good start to the North Cork Div 1 League with a win against Ballycastle Gaels in Castletownroche on Sunday the 2nd March. Despite a sluggish start from the visitors, they found themselves in front by 4 points at half time. After being asked to focus on the basics at half time Glenville tightened things up and kicked on to finish the game on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-7.
