The last draw was held on Monday 24.2.25 and Thomas Quirke, Castlelyons was the lucky winner of our monster Lotto Jackpot of €20,000. and the numbers drawn were 3, 7, 21 and 24.  Congratulations from the Club to Thomas.   Next week we open with a huge Jackpot again of €12,000.  The next Draw will be held in the Community Centre on Monday 3rd March at 8.15pm.  Thank you all for your support and don’t forget you can play our Lotto Online or purchase from the usual outlets.  If you’re not in you can’t win.

Under 16 Footballers begin League with a win.

Castlelyons 2-9 Mitchelstown 3-4.

Our Under 16 footballers travelled to Mitchelstown on Saturday to play the local in the Rebel Óg Under 16 Division 2 League.  They fielded a very young side with four Under 14 lads and Mitchelstown kindly agreed to play 13 a side beforehand.  Castlelyons backs and goalie Liam Riordan did well in the first half against stronger opponents and our forwards made the most of chances that came their way with Khalee Abdelrazk scoring 1-3 over the course of the game.  Dylan Barret an U14 who was doing well had to go off injured at half time and Mitchelstown took over a bit.

Castlelyons stayed in touch and although Mitchelstown were up a point near the end Ewan McCarthy banged in a great goal to put us up a point and Thomas McAuliffe floated over a lovely score to win it by two points at the final whistle.  This was a very good display considering Cionnaith Cotter, Dylan Barrett, Jimmy O’Riordan and Ewan McCarthy are all under 14.  So well done to the players and management Seanie Cotter and Shane Hickey.  We will be facing a strong challenge next week in Carrigtwohill and hopefully Dylan Barrett will be okay and a few more lads back for this game. John Ahern, Araglen was on the whistle and did well as he left the game flow.

Team: Liam O’Riordan, Adam Collins, Cahal O’Keeffe, Ian O’Riordan, Ronan Hickey, Cionnaith Cotter, Thomas McAuliffe, Rian Linehan, Dylan Barrett, Khalee Abdelrazk, Ewan McCarthy, Jude Hallihan.

Congratulations to Aishling Rosner Castlelyons and Cork Camogie.

Congratulations to Aishling Rosner and her Cork U17s teammates.  They had a great win over Limerick in the Munster Under 17 A Camogie Shield Final in Fethard on Saturday.  These are Camogie development groups and Aisling played a half at corner back and did very well.  They now go forward to a National Development Blitz.

Cork Hurlers can still make the League Final.

The Rebels are now fourth in the Allianz hurling League table as Tipperary are on top after their defeat of Cork in Thurles last Saturday evening.  Kilkenny are second and Galway third.  Limerick are fifth on the same points as Cork while with Wexford then and Clare bottom and staring relegation.  Kilkenny are coming to the Páirc on Saturday evening, and this should be a cracker as Kilkenny would like to win this one lay down a marker as they may meet the Rebels later in Championship 2025.  Secondly it is ingrained in the culture of the Cats to use the League as a financial bonanza for the year.

It is interesting that over four seasons 2009 to 2012 the Cats netted a whopping €414,983 from the hurling league.  In fact, in 2013 they were heading for the magical half million mark as they had the semi-final of the league a repeat of 2012 All-Ireland final pairing to come should boost Kilkenny’s earning by something in the order of €35,000 alone from the League pot. The size of the crowd, which can be determined by good or bad weather, influences the size of the returns.  They were playing Galway in April 2013 in the semi-final and Barry Hickey Kilkenny, County Treasurer and a St Catherines man, is quoted in the Kilkenny People that “making the League semi-finals is a huge boost for Kilkenny from a number of points of view, including in terms of finance”.  The Rebels could benefit with a few extra bob these times and surely winning the League would gladly add to the coffers.  Maybe like Clare last year the Rebels can do League and Championship double in 2025.  Best of luck to our own Niall O’Leary and the team on Saturday evening.  The game is on at 5pm.

Different story for the footballers as defeat by Monaghan at the weekend means they now face Roscommon in the Páirc also on Saturday after the hurling game.  A win is a must here or their league aspirations and promotion to Division One is over.  Hopefully they can live up to form on home ground and we wish them the best of luck.

Our Junior Hurlers move up to Division 2 in the East Cork League.

Our junior hurlers, because of a good of making the final last year, are up a grade and out on the 9th of March versus Midleton in Castlelyons in the East Cork Division 2 JHL.  The other teams in this league are Fr O’Neills, Youghal, St Ita’s, Carrignabhfear Killeagh and Watergrasshill.  It will be a testing, but our lads are doing a bit of training despite the inclement weather.  They will have seven games stretching out to the last one versus Carrignabhfear on the 15th of June.

Help Support Elliott’s Fight Against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

In December 2024, 12-year-old Club member Elliott McLoughlin was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. A fundraiser for Elliott has been set up to help with some of the logistical/financial impact of his treatment.  In December 2024, 12-year-old Elliott was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  Since then, he has been undergoing intensive treatment at Children’s Health Ireland, Crumlin, and CUH, under the care of his Paediatric Haematology Consultant.

This diagnosis has been a devastating shock to the McLoughlin family. Elliott is one of four children in the household. His parents, Conor and Franziska, are both unable to work—Conor is still recovering from a severe stroke he suffered in 2019, while Franziska has been dedicated to caring for him and their children. The financial burden of Elliott’s illness has been overwhelming, with mounting expenses for hospital travel, medications, car maintenance, and other essential care costs that are not fully covered by the public health system.  This is an extremely challenging time for the family. Any contribution, no matter how small is appreciated and any surplus funds raised will be donated to a few deserving causes to support other families facing similar battles. The family express their heartfelt gratitude the kindness and support received to date.  Go raibh míle maith agat.
