Killeagh GAA Club Notes February 23rd 2025
CLCG Cilliath, Nuacht an Chlub, Feabhra 23, 2025
HURLING SEASON BEGINS
In preparation for our opening hurling league matches (see fixtures below) next month, our senior hurlers began the 2025 season with a useful challenge match in Páirc Uí Chinnéide against Cloyne on Saturday evening last. Hopes are high that we will be bookmarking this match as the first shots fired in a successful year come November next.
WEATHER WINS ON SATURATED SUNDAY
A hectic “Super Sunday” of 4 Mile Road Race in Killeagh followed by a projected dash to Carrignavar for the East Cork Under 21 Football Semi-Final against St. Colmcille's never came to pass as both events fell prey to the Yellow Wind and Rain warning from Met Éireann. The Road Race will be rescheduled for more favourable weather (we hope), probably in early May. No news as of now about the refixing of the Under 21 match – ominously the Echo reported on Friday that Avondhu GAA have provisionally refixed the culmination of their posptoned U21 A football championship until June 28th!
SCÓR BATTLE OF THE P.R.O.s
Great credit is due to the diligent East Cork Scór Committee for keeping the flame lit through many challenges. The 2025 Scór Sinsir Imokilly Finals took place in Lisgoold on Sunday evening with Killeagh and Glenbower Rovers participating in the Tráth na gCeist. The “old dogs for the hard road”, led by captaen na fóirne and iar-uachtaráin Denis Barry, assisted by Eddie Leahy, Matthew Hurley and the elder club PRO, got the better of the other teams including the Glenbower “young bucks” Barry, Dara, Cathal and the younger club PRO, whose combined performance might be best summed up by the old Larry Gogan line “they didn’t really suit you!” County Tráth na gCeist is on this Wednesday coming in Páirc Ui Chaoimh at 7.30 p.m. with all clubs welcome. Donations to CUH Charity will be accepted on the night.
CLUB SOCIAL
A reminder that we are heading to Garryvoe Hotel on Friday next February 28th for our Club Social, with cups and medals aplenty. Last minute tickets may still be available from Sandra Burns but time is not on your side. Ring 087-6329334 ASAP if you don’t want to miss out!
LOTTO
Our Lotto jackpot is climbing – now up to €10,800! Play online or in local businesses before 7.30 p.m. every Tuesday.
