Midleton Notes (13th Feb)

  • Feb 13,2025

East Cork U21B Football Championship – Midleton 7-11 St. Colman’s 0-04
On Saturday afternoon in Cloyne, we played the clubs first football game under the new rules. With twenty-five players togged out, we had a strong panel to pick from. Right from the start you could see we were comfortable with the new rules, which is evidence of the effort put into training over the last couple of weeks. We were dominant all over the field and with first half goals from Calum O’Brien and Cian Lambe we led by ten points at half time. There was no let-up in our intensity in the second half, but it took a while to convert this to scores. Midway through the second half we extended or lead with goals from Tadgh Bohan, Sean McSharry, Orhan Dennigan and two from Eoin Higgins. Tadgh O’Leary Hayes also chipped in with the clubs first 2-point score. We now play St Colmcilles in the quarter final on at 11.30am on Sunday 16 February 2025 in Carrig Na BhFear.
Team:Josh Foley, Sean Cronin, Alex Moloney, Matthew McSweeney, Cian Lambe (1-01), Tadhg O’Leary Hayes (1 2pt score), Darragh Egan, Tadhg Bohan (1-00), Evan McGrath (c), Cathal Beausang, Darragh Scanlon (0-02), Sean McSharry (1-02), Orhan Dennigan (1-01), Eoin Higgins (2-01), Calum O’Brien (1-02)..

East Cork U21C Football Championship Midleton 0-04 St Catherines 3-10
On Sunday morning in Ballynoe, fielding a very young team, we were beaten by a strong St Catherines team. After playing well against a slight breeze in a very competitive first half, we were behind at half time 0-03 to 1-05, with the St Catherine goal coming in the last play of the half. We started the second half brightly and created a number of goal chances, but we were unlucky not score any due to the St Catherines goalkeeper pulling off a string of saves. Towards the end of the game St Catherines superior physicality told and they scored two more goals to seal their win. For such a young team, our lads did great to keep the game completive until the very end, and hopefully the players will use this game as a platform from which they can push for places on the U21B team.
Team: Euan Murphy, Fionn Bohan, Bradley O’Brien, Sean Crowley, Jason Morley, Nicky Coughlan (0-01), Josh Hogan, Conor Morley (0-01), Lauchlin Stewart, Scott Dunlea, Oran Rabbitte (c), Rian O’Driscoll, Darragh Birdthistle (0-01), Cian Stack (0-01), Luke O’Riordan.
