Amazing isn’t it that as little as €2 each week from so many people all over the country and indeed all over the world can make huge difference to the finances of our Club? Every €2 counts so thanks to every one who buys a ticket and to all who sell the tickets. Special thanks to the hard-working Lotto Committee.
TRAINING COMMENCES.
It’s only January but many of the Club teams are back training for the 2025 season. Last Sunday four teams trained on the sand based pitch at Pynes.
CAR BOOT SALE. The next Parish Car Boot Sale is on Sunday week February the 2nd.  The Car Boot Sale has been a great source of financial assistance for our club in recent years and we are very grateful for this. Help is always needed at the Car Boot Sale -collecting at the gate, car-parking and stewarding and preparing the site on the Saturday before. If you can give, even an hour or two, it would be greatly appreciated so just please contact  Billy, Tom, Mossie or Richie  or any Club Officer.
FIFTY YEARS AGO.
At the Club AGM treasurer Tom Barry reported a record Credit Balance of £469.20 -the  Club had contested the 1973 East Cork Final (and replay)  Erins Own and we’d got £448  from the Board as our share of the gate Receipts.  The Officers elected for 1975 were  Chairman David John Barry, vice chairman  Pat O Connor , Secretary John Arnold, Asst Sec Tony Walsh, Treasurer Tommy Barry.  We reached the Junior B grade Final in Hurling with Pat O Connor as Captain and won the title after an epic game against St Itas.
NATIONAL LEAGUES START..
This weekend sees the commencement of the 2025 National Leagues in both Hurling and football. Saturday sees both Cork teams in action. The hurlers are at home to Meath at 5 o clock whilst at thew same time below in Wexford our hurlers meet the Model County caman wielders. The following weekend the hurlers have a 7.30pm home game against Limerick and the footballers travel to the Mountains of Mourne to play Down.
WELL DONE PAT JACK AND GARRET.
A great local success story at Killeagh point to point races on Sunday last.  Young Jack Collins rode Ceis Charragain, owned by his grandfather Pat Pyne, to victory in the six-year old and upwards maiden race. The winner is trained by Garret Ahern. Jack also had a second place on Mount Rinjani in the last race. Well done to all concerned.
LIGHTING UP FOR IRELAND. The 2025 series of Monday night walks in the pitch began on Monday night last January 20th.  The planned start on Monday Jan.6th was postponed due to the bad weather and then on Monday week January 13th the walk was deferred due to the sad circumstances that pertained that weekend.  We had over 80 participating on Monday night. The Lighting up for Ireland continues for the next number of Monday nights starting at 7.30pm. Walk as fast or slow and as much or as little as you want and are able to.
SARS GO DOWN. In reality no one saw this result coming – a win for Sars after a tight game was the widely-held opinion before last Sunday’s All Ireland Senior Club Hurling championship Final when the Cork side took on Na Fianna in Croke Park.  Well that’s not how it turned out as the Mobhi Road based  side simply blew away the Sarsfields challenge. Playing a fast and furious style of hurling the Dublin side were on top from the start and Sars simply could not get into the game at all. Na Fianna only won their first Dublin SHC crown in 2023. One local connection with Na Fianna is Mike Kearney from Ballybrowney who gave great service in both hurling and football to the Rovers before transferring to Na Fianna few years ago. Sars will be disappointed but winning two Cork Senior Hurling Leagues, a County SHC Title and a Munster SHC title- all in the space of 24 months isn’t a bad haul at all.
