Happy New Year

Wishing all our members, supporters (near and far) and our local community, every good wish for the year ahead.

Jerry Russell

We are missing our Club Stalwart and friend Jerry Russell, pictured here with Alan Geary proudly holding the Diarmuid Uí Chonaill cup after a well contested Cork East U21 Hurling Final.

Cumann Luthchleas Gael Eochaill expresses our deepest sympathy to the Russell family on the unexpected death of their father Jerry.

Our sympathy also to the extended Russell and Galvin families.

Jerry was a past player with us and a former club Chairman. He continued to be very active in the club, particularly in fundraising activities and supported all teams from underage upwards.

He will be missed by all of us.

Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

U21B Hurling Semi-Final Match Report

Team Sponsor:

MURLYN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Thanks to Alan Hennessy for the report.

Eochaill 3-17 St.Colmcilles 1-10

Youghal travelled to Castlelyons on Wednesday night for the East Cork semi-final v St.Colmcilles. Despite what the final score line looks like, this was our toughest game to date and it took the team the best part of 40 mins to get going.

Colmcilles were well on top for the first half and Youghal were giving away too many frees. We found ourselves 1-5/0-2 down after 15mins. A late rally of points from Devon, The 2 Conors, Fionn and Enda had us behind by 2 at half time 1-7/0-8.

Points from Devon, Micheál and Enda saw Youghal take the lead for the first time in the game with 20 mins to go. The introduction of Jamie Lenane and Oisín Hill (didn't start due to injury) gave the team an injection up front. 2 quick goals from Oisín and Conor Savage in the 50th and 51st min put daylight between the teams and a further goal from James Murray later in the half saw us run out comfortable winners on the scoreboard. Worryingly, we are picking up a few injuries and management will be hoping that these will clear up in time for Sunday.

The lads know that this was a tough game and improvement will be needed for Sunday morning when they face St. Catherine's in the East Cork final.

Final score: Eochaill 3-17 St. Colmcilles 1-10

East Cork U21 B Hurling C'ship Final

Eochaill 1-11 St. Catherine's 0-13

Youghal travelled to Caherlag on Sunday for the East Cork Final and after a very tough honest game of hurling between two evenly matched teams, we eventually came out on top, but only just.

Saints started the better and were 3 pts to 0 up after 10mins.

Conor Galvin opened the Youghal scoring after 11mins. Saints continued to dominate the half with Youghal finding it hard to get into the game heading for the half time whistle and 5 down, a lifeline when a good move ended with a goal from Jayden.

HT Eochaill 1-3 St. Catherine's 0-8

The second half began like the first with Saints adding to the score. Devon's free taking was keeping us in touch, as well as a point from Jamie Lenane.

The going was tough now with both teams working hard. Youghal drew level with 10 mins remaining and a point from Jamie had us ahead for the first time with 7 mins remaining. A further point from Jayden put us 2 up but Saints weren't done yet and they levelled again with time almost up. When it looked like we might be heading for extra time, Jayden got another point to put us ahead again.

Some great defending in injury time saw us hold on, but only just, for the win.

Final Score: Eochaill 1-11 St. Catherine's 0-13

Avril Geary, East Cork Board Chairperson, presented the cup to a delighted winning Capt Oisín Hill.

Team:

Oisín Walsh, Senan O'Brien, Bobby Nicholson, Marty Desmond, Enda Cronin, Cùlann Geary, Ronan O'Brien, Micheál Breathnach, Oisín Terry Foley, Devon O'Donoghue (0-5f), Jayden Casey (1-2), Oisín Hill (0-1), Conor Galvin (0-1), Conor Savage, James Murray.

Subs Used:

Fionn Hill for Oisín Terry Foley

Jamie Lenane for Conor Savage

Brian Lynch for Enda Cronin

This was Youghal's first U21 title since 2009 and we now head to Pairc Uí Chaoimh 4G next weekend for the County Final v Ballinora.

The team wish to thank all the supporters who have travelled with them so far and hope that they can continue that support for one more outing next weekend.

Up The Youghal Boys!!!!!

Annual Super Valu Bag Packing

Well done to all our members and parents who took part in our annual bag packing fund raiser, with a special mention to the coordinator Claire Kennedy. A fantastic amount of money was raised for the club.

Thanks to Super Valu Youghal for their continued support and to all the shoppers who gave so generously. Your support means so much.

Annual Puc Fada

As the St Stephens day fog lingered in the morning, it didn’t dampen spirits for the 100 strong participants of this year’s Annual Puc Fada.

Fresh off the club’s recent U21 success, it was great to see so many in Copperalley, young and old, ranging from ages 7 to 70.

Thanks, as always, to Maurice Cronin for capturing all the action.

Prizes can be collected in the clubhouse and we hope to see the Killeagh boys sporting their new maroon and gold socks soon!

Thank you to Eoin Coyne and John Grace for organising, to all of you who participated and to all those that supported on the course.

Maurice and Ann

A special word of thanks to Maurice Cronin, who is always on hand to capture wonderful memories for all our members and supporters, and to Ann for being there with him.
