John O Sullivan gave some great detail about our activities over the last 12 months and concluded with the following:

As my term as Runaí comes to an end, I want to thank our Cathaoirleach Alan Geary, Leas-Cathaoirleach Christy Cooney, the previous Cathaoirleach Stephen Twomey, and my fellow officers over the last three years for their continued support. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes, and it takes huge effort and commitment from many people to run a club like Youghal GAA. Of course, there is also a lot of fun along the way, and I have to say I have had some good laughs.

I could not have done the Runaí’s job without the support of our Fixtures Secretary, Alan Hennesy. Alan is more than the Fixtures Secretary. Alan typifies what is needed to be a great Youghal GAA person, and I thank him for his good counsel and support over the years.

As some of you know, I am a stickler for the constitution. Hopefully, over the last three years, I have put in place policies and systems that will help us govern the club into the future and ensure that everything is in place so that our players and managers can fully focus on playing the game and not worry about the organisational stuff. I have always believed that our committees should be working as hard off the pitch as the players do on the pitch.

As a blow-in, I have never had the chance to wear the Maroon and Gold in a game for Youghal, but hopefully, over the last 16 years as a coach for LGFA and Eochaill Óg, attending meetings as Assistant Secretary for LGFA, Board Delegate for Eochaill Óg for many years, discipline committee member, Eochaill Óg Secretary for 2 years, a big part in the Development Committee, and Youghal GAA Runaí for the last 3 years, I have earned the right to say that I am a Youghal GAA man. I am hugely proud of Youghal GAA and its members. I have made lots of friends because of Youghal GAA and isn’t that what it’s about.

Finally, I want to wish the incoming officers the best of luck next year and to all the teams across our codes and that they see the success they truly deserve. Eochaill Abú.

Is mise le meas,

Séan Ó Súilleabháin

We are delighted to announce that Youghal GAA club was awarded the silver award at the recent Joe McDonagh Foundation Ceremony in Croke Park on Friday the 29th of November 2024.

The Joe McDonagh award is a support scheme of the GAA and Glór na Gael aimed at GAA clubs active in the promotion of the Irish language.

Tá áthas orainn a fhógairt go bhfuil bonn airgid de chuid Fhondúireacht Sheosaimh Mhic Dhonnacha bronnta orainn i mbliana ar son CLG Eochaill. Is scéim tacaíochta de Chumann Lúthchleas Gael agus Ghlór na Gael é seo agus tá ard moladh tuillte ag an gCoiste Gaeilge sa chlub chun é seo a bhaint amach i mbliana.

This is the second stage of our accreditation journey having achieved the bronze award last year. Representing the club on the night were Liam Ó Laochdha and Julie Uí Bhuachalla . A big thank you to everyone who has supported and contributed to making the Irish language prosper in our club.

Is léir go bhfuil an Ghaeilge ag dul ó neart go neart inár gclub!

Eochaill 1-20 Kanturk/Dromtarriffe 0-13

Eochaill returned to Pairc Ui Chaoimh 4G for the County Semi-Final on Sunday and after a tough game progressed to the County Final.

Kanturk opened the scoring and led 2 points to 0 before Jayden Casey got Youghal off the mark with a good point. Further points from Devon and Conor Galvin had the teams level after nearly 15 mins. Kanturk-Dromtarriffe were dealt a blow in this time with the loss of their Captain and centre back Tommy Walsh to injury. Shortly afterwards, Youghal got the first goal of the game after Conor Savage tapped home following great work from Fionn Hill and James Murray. Youghal now led 1-4 to 0-4.

A brilliant double save from goalkeeper Oisín Walsh and full back Bobby Nicholson kept us ahead 1-9 to 0-8 at the break.

Youghal upped the pace at the start of the second half, and points from Devon (whose free taking was very good), James and Conor G had us 1-17 to 0-10 ahead with over 10 mins left. The team defended well, kept Kanturk at bay and we held out for the win.

Final Score: Eochaill 1-20 Kanturk-Dromtarriffe 0-13

Team:

Oisín Walsh (0-1f), Senan O'Brien, Bobby Nicholson, Marty Desmond, Enda Cronin, Cùlann Geary, Ronan O'Brien, Micheál Breathnach, Oisín Hill (Capt), Devon O Donoghue (0-10f), Jayden Casey (0-2), Fionn Hill (0-1), Conor Galvin (0-2), Conor Savage (1-0), James Murray (0-4).

Subs Used:

Jamie Lenane, Oisin Terry Foley, Chris Buckley, Brian Lynch, Liam Durkin.

Not used:

Luke Lenane, Gearoid Geary, Ralph Cashman, Noah Hegarty, Paddy Nicholson.

In the final Eochaill will play Ballinora or Ballygarvan who meet in the other semi-final. As both these teams are involved in other county competitions we aren't sure of the date for the final. As soon as we know we will let you know.

Eochaill Abù!

Our thanks again to Alan Hennessy for the match report.

As it stands there is still no confirmed date for the final. Keep an eye on our Facebook/Instagram pages for news as it happens.
