U21s Bounce Back
Our u21 hurlers had their second championship game last Friday evening against Fr. O’Neill’s in Castlelyons. The lads bounced back after a disappointing defeat to Aghada and put on a very good display to win by 5 points. Castlelyons started well and raced into 7 point lead after 20 minutes. Adam Lardner Colm McCarthy (3) and Oscar Hallihan (2) all raised white flags and a great goal by Evan Lenihan placed us 1-6 to 0-02 up. The Ballymacoda side responded before half time and hit back with a goal themselves to narrow the gap. We went in 1-08 to 1-05 up at the break. Castlelyons continued hurling well in the second half. Brian Spillane and Jack Cremin both fired over points and when Colm McCarthy found the back of the net we were 2-12 to 1-07 in the lead with 10 minutes left. Fr. O’Neills scored a consolation goal near the end and we finished the stronger as we tagged on 2 points through Oscar Hallihan and Dara Spillane. The final score read 2-14 to 2-09.
