Castlemartyr GAA News

Just some brief updates following a busy weekend of sport......and celebrating for many. It's time to take stock of what lies ahead, with plenty happening in our club over the next few weeks.

County Junior Football Semi Final

Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels meet Killavullen in the second of the Avondhu semi finals on this Friday evening with the winners due to meet Charleville in the North Cork Final. The champions there will be up against the Carrigdhoun winners - Ballygarvan on the weekend after next, with the eventual winners of the quarter final playing against Castlemartyr in the County semi final on the weekend of November 16th/17th.  

East Cork Final Replay

It's all hands on deck this coming Saturday as Castlemartyr will host the junior hurling final replay between Carraig na bhFear and Killeagh. Throw in is at 2pm, so just like yesterday the club would be delighted and most appreciative with as much help as possible. Please let us know if you are able to assist with parking, stewarding, etc.

Under 21 Hurling Championship

Our opening match is this Sunday in the East Cork Under 21 'C' hurling championship against Cobh, which is likely to be played in Castlemartyr, We will confirm that fixture later this week. This year Cha O'Neill is team manager with Fergus Lynch, Eoin Cashman and Conor Whyte completing the backroom team.

Dinner Dance

Our big Dinner Dance date is now less than two weeks away. Tickets sales are going well, but the organisers Paula and Noreen need to confirm a definite final number in the near future. Have you booked your ticket yet? If not, please do so in the next few days. The final sale and collection of tickets is on this Friday evening November 1st from 7pm to 8pm at our grounds.

President's Visit

GAA President Jarliath Burns will be among us on Saturday November 16th from 2pm to 4pm, He will first visit Paddy Walsh Memorial Park at 2pm to meet club members and watch some of our juveniles in action, before officially opening our new All Weather Pitch. Afterwards everyone is again invited to assemble in the School Hall for a few formalities, photocall and to enjoy light refreshments.  

Memorial Mass

Saturday November 23rd at 7pm will be another significant occasion Centenary Year. The usual Vigil Mass will see past members of our club remembered and there will be special involvement in the ceremony by Castlemartyr GAA folk. We ask people to join us to remember our friends, family members and former colleagues who played such a big part in Castlemartyr GAA over 100 years.

Afterwards, everyone is invited to Cliffords Bar for club gathering and to view nostalgic footage of years gone by.
