U21s Lose First Time out

We began our u21 hurling campaign last Sunday evening against Aghada in a wet and miserable Rostellan under lights. The game began as a tit for tat affair with Oscar Hallihan and Adam Lardner opening our scoring with Aghada replying with points of their own. Aghada found their groover and took the lead with a well taken goal. Castlelyons responded with points from frees from Colm McCarthy. We went in 2 points down at half time on a scoreline of 1-05 to 0-06. Aghada began the 2nd half far stronger and nearly had the game put to bed by 45 mins. They scored 1-05 without reply to go 2-10 to 0-09 in front. Castlelyons started a comeback and through the accuracy of Colm McCarthy on the frees, 1-05 in the 2nd half alone we had a glimmer of a chance. Aghada scored a third goal to go ahead by 6 points again with time running out and even a last second goal by Adam Lardner couldn’t close the gap enough as the final score read 2-13 to 3-13 in favour of the home side.

A Cracker as Carragnavar down Ita’s

We had the pleasure of hosting Carragnavar and St. Ita’s in the East Cork Junior A Semi-final last Saturday afternoon in front of a large crowd. Played in front of a large crowd, both teams put on a brilliant display of hurling over the 60 minutes. Carraig na bhFear came out on top by the minimal margin on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-18. The playing surface on our new pitch was looking fantastic and both teams complimented how good it was. Our new stand got and ‘unofficial’ opening as well when a few heavy showers encouraged a few spectators to remove the barriers and take cover under the roof. By the start of the game the stand was nearly full which left stewards scrambling to ensure there were no trip hazards left in the open. Everyone who has helped out with the stand over the last few months can be proud of their efforts as every plank and handrail remained in place at the end of the game. There's a bit more to be done but we can safely say we now have a top class facility that is as good as any in Cork.
