Minors prepare for East Cork Final
Glenville 1-21 St.Colmcilles 4-09
With an impending East Cork final, our minors were out last Thursday night in a challenge game at home to St.Colmcilles who themselves recently won an East Cork title. With a few players missing on both sides, it turned out to be a very open game, with Glenville very much to the forefront in the first half, kicking some wonderful scores and being very economical with their chances, going into half time with an impressive lead of 1-13 to 1-3. The second half was a much different affair, and although we started with four unanswered points, a number of substitutions changed our shape and left the opposition into the game and they converted a number of goal opportunities to setup a grandstand finish, but to fair the Glenville boys withstood the pressure to take the win in a high scoring game with 1-21 vs. 4-9. It was an excellent runout and good preparation for our next game.
Team and scorers: D.O’Leary; C.Buckley, S.O’Leary, O.Whelan; E.Forde (0-2), B.Ryan, M.O’Riordan (0-1); C.Linehan (0-2), D.Forde; J.Hennebry (0-4), D.O’Bric, R.Horgan; D.Barry (0-4), J.Counihan (0-4), S.Curtin (1-4); C.O’Mahony, L.Guichard, D.McCarthy, C.Sheehan, A.Casey.
Rebel Og Division 2 Championship Final
Friday night in Caherlag at 7.30 v Cobh
Next Friday night the parish will converge on Caherlag where our minors will take on Cobh in the East Cork final. This is a return to the same venue where we were beaten in a very tight game by Kiltha Óg in the East Cork final last year. The lads have put in a lot of work over the summer and after losing their first championship group game they have come back to win four games in succession to reach the final. We wish them the very best of luck in the final.
All support greatly appreciated.
U14s finish league campaign with fine performance.
U14C3 Football League
Ballincollig 5.07 Glenville 2.06
Glenville rounded off the u14c3 League campaign with a visit from Ballincollig on Monday evening last. Ballincollig set the pace early and were in control at halftime 2.06 to 0.02. Credit to our lads , they pegged the lead back to level things up midway through the second half. But Two late goals by the opposition finished out a very sporting game. A spirited display from our boys always kept the game competitive and right up to the last two kicks were well in the game.
A tough league group consisting of Nemo, Bishopstown and Ballincollig made the lads dig deeper and they would normally, and they did that in spades throughout the campaign. With this league, extra games were the order of the day, and our very diligent group went about their business with little fuss in every game. Well done to the lads who took part, and their improvement has been immense.
