Glenville Notes (30th Sep)
Junior Bs end season on a high
East Cork Junior B Championship
Glenville 2-08 St. Catherines 1-07
The Junior Bs ended their season on a winning note by defeating St.Catherines in a hugely entertaining game under lights in Glenville on Monday night.
The pitch was in perfect condition after the torrential rain the previous day which is a credit to the ground staff. The first half was a tight affair with St.Catherines going in on the short whistle leading 0-07-0-05. In the second half Glenville really came into the game with some brilliant scores from Dara O Bric and Ciaran Linehan. The highlight was an incredibly well taken goal by Johnny Dorgan, who was brilliant throughout. Man of the match was Michael Murphy who belied his advancing years, to give a display worthy of a higher grade.
St.Catherines only score of the second half came from a penalty which Niall Sullivan, who was impressive from start to finish, was unlucky not to stop. The full backline was well marshalled by Shane Clarke and the evergreen Will Sheehy. In truth every Glenville player played well and gave a great account of themselves.
Special mention must go to manager Paddy O’Sullivan who worked tirelessly throughout the year and played some excellent football as well. He was ably assisted by Johnny O’Connell, Dave Cooke, Dan Linehan and Pat McHugh.

Minors impress in winning semi-final
Glenville 3-14 Castlelyons 2-07
Castlelyons was the venue on Saturday evening where we took on the hosts in the semi-final of the East Cork Minor football championship. An early goal form Ciaran in the first minute was the perfect start and after twelve minute we led by 1-3 to 0-1 and it looked very bright. However, a combination of poor shot selection and wayward shooting along with two very well worked scores from Castlelyons meant by half time we hadn’t added to our total and led by just a goal, 1-3 to 0-3. The half-time team talk focused on improving our decision making and shot selection and the lads really upped the ante in the second half, scoring a number of excellent points and adding goals from Coran and Ciaran to eventually run out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-14 to 2-7. There were some impressive performances in the second half, Ciaran’s overall total of 2-5 standing out overall. Next up is the final, currently scheduled for Saturday 12th October vs. Cobh. This team narrowly lost in the final last year, so to get the back there this year is a testament in itself to the character of the players, let’s hope they can put it right this year and bring the silverware back to Glenville.

U13s win Cup Final
U13 Rebel Og Coiste football Cup Final
Glenville 4.09 St.Finbarrs 2.08
On Saturday, our 13-team arrived in MTU to take on the Barrs in the cup final . The lads were anxious not to have a repeat of last year's final loss and recognised that the Barrs are always tough competitors. The Barrs were first out of the traps with two glorious points and were piling on the pressure. A great spirit of defiance from Jamie, Diarmuid and Evan and the game started to turn. The ubiquitous Sean making some great plays, Robbie, Joe, Andrew and Fionn stormed into the game with a couple of great points and a wonderful goal from James that came at the end of a great coast to coast move that started with an excellent kick out from Luke. Ben, Paddy, Ronan, Ciaran and Eolann all getting their hand on the ball in a scintillating move. Leading at half time the reinforcements of Darragh and Paddy O helped get us over the line. A rousing speech from Jack and Ely was the final act of a great day
Special mention to Donncha who missed the game through injury and thanks to the Barrs for a sporting game.
Premier Juniors beaten in County Quarter Final
The Premier Junior Championship campaign ended on a disappointing note with a strong defeat to Kilmurry in Ovens last Friday night, on a scoreline of 4-11 to 0-4. Glenville tried hard throughout the game and despite trailing throughout the game, the Glenville lads never gave up.
Even though the final game was a disappointing outcome, it was a county quarter-final and getting out of the group and getting this far in the campaign would have been a result that any of the players or management would gladly have taken at the start of the year.
Overall, it was a good year for the Premier Junior team, a year where strong foundations have been laid down for next year, with a unified squad and a very professional management team put in place. With the 2024 minors eligible to join the squad next year, the premier junior squad is in a strong starting position for the 2025 league and championship.
We wish to thank every member of the Premier Junior, Junior B and Junior C playing squad as well as the management and support teams that gave so much to the campaigns this year.
