SENIORS DEFEAT NETOWN IN PSHC

MIDLETON 2-20 NEWTOWNSHANDRUM 1-15

Our senior hurlers are back in the County Premier Senior Hurling Championship semi-final after a good win over Newtownshandrum in front of a big crowd in Pairc Ui Rinn on Friday night last.

The men in black and white got off to the best possible start when Pa White scored a brilliant goal after just 46 seconds.

Newtown struck back with three points in a row to level but points from Luke O'Farrell and Conor Lehane (2) saw us three up again by the 11th minute.

Points from Conor Lehane (2) and Luke O'Farrell saw us two ahead with eight minutes to play in the opening period.

Newtown roared back into the game in first-half injury-time through a Jamie Coughlan goal before Conor Lehane and Coughlan exchanged frees late on to ensure that the North Cork men went in at the break in front on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-8.

We started very well after the restart and three Conor Lehane points and a second of the game for David Cremin saw us go from two down to two up within seven minutes of the second period.

Newtown cut the gap before Aaron Mulcahy marked his arrival with an excellent white flag but by the 44th minute the game was level at 1-13 apiece seconds before Luke O'Farrell struck for our second goal of the game. This vital score was quickly followed by points from David Cremin (after an excellent kicked pass assist from Conor Lehane), two from Conor Lehane and one each from Ross O'Regan and Luke O'Farrell to see us lead by eight (2-18 o 1-13) with six minutes to play.

Two Newtown points late on were cancelled out by white flags from Eoin Moloney and Luke O'Farrell to confirm a well deserved victory for the Magpies and procession to a county semi-final and a repeat of last year's final with Sars on Sunday week.

Scorers: Midleton: Conor Lehane 0-10 (0-4 f 0-2 65), Luke O’Farrell 1-4, David Cremin 0-3, Patrick White 1-0, Aaaron Mulcahy, Ross O’Regan, Eoin Moloney 0-1 each.

Midleton got off to a fast start through points from John O'Sullivan, Charlie McCarthy and Alex Molumby before John O'Sullivan hit the game's opening goal on ten minutes. Liam Walsh added a second green flag two minutes later and further majors followed before the half-time whistle from Jack Cahill and John O'Sullivan to ensure that the young Magpies led by 4-13 to 0-6 at the halfway stage.

Midleton made wholsale changes in the second-half but every single player that was introduced played their part in a great win. Alfie Hennessy added the fifth goal as the boys in Black and White ran out convincing winners after a top class display.
