Seniors Through to County ¼ Final

Castlelyons cruised into the quarterfinals of the Co-op Superstores Cork Senior A Hurling Championship after a dominant victory over Cloyne in Dungourney. This win secured their place in the knockout stages, where they will face Na Piarsaigh, while Cloyne are left to prepare for a relegation playoff against Carrigtwohill.

From the first whistle, Castlelyons set the tone, launching into the game with an intensity that Cloyne struggled to match. A point each from James Kearney and Niall O’Leary in the opening minute established an early lead, and Castlelyons never looked back. By the 12th minute, they were 0-9 to 0-2 ahead, thanks to sharp shooting from Alan Fenton, Keith O’Leary, and Leon Doocey. Castlelyons' scoring was relentless, with Fenton, in particular, leading the charge. He finished the game with a superb 11 points, further stamping his authority on the contest.

Cloyne did manage to put up some resistance, notably through Brian Walsh and Éanna Motherway, but Castlelyons consistently responded with two or three points for every score their opponents managed. As the first half drew to a close, Cloyne were handed a lifeline in the form of a penalty after their full forward was deemed to be fouled in front of goal. However, Jack Barry's brilliant save from Ashley Walsh’s shot dashed any hope of a Cloyne revival. Castlelyons quickly capitalized on this missed opportunity, adding three more points before the break to lead 0-19 to 0-8 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same, with Castlelyons maintaining control and comfortably managing the game. Though Cloyne battled on, they had no answer for Castlelyons’ precision and work rate. Captain Colm Spillane, Fenton, and Niall O’Leary were all on target early in the half, while Cloyne could only muster a handful of scores in response.

In the final quarter, Fenton put the result beyond any doubt, hitting six points in a row, four of them from play. His performance epitomized Castlelyons' dominance, with Cloyne’s only response during this period coming from Ashley Walsh.

Cloyne's frustrations were compounded when they received a straight red card. Castlelyons can look ahead with confidence to their quarterfinal meeting with Na Piarsaigh, knowing they have the firepower and form to push further in the competition.

This was a performance that Castlelyons supporters will cherish, marked by intensity, accuracy, and teamwork. With players like Alan Fenton and Niall O’Leary in top form, they will be a tough challenge for any team in the knockout stages. The ¼ final is now fixed for Saturday 21st September at 7.15pm in Páirc Uí Rinn.

Walkathon This Weekend

The buzz is picking up as we have our Walkathon this weekend, starting Friday evening. 24 teams will each spend an hour walking around the walkway that encircles the pitch over a 24 hour period, starting Friday September 13th and finishing in the evening of Saturday September 14th. Proceeds of the event will go towards the outstanding costs & maintenance of our fully lit 1km Walkway. The walkway has been a great addition for the local community but there is a cost with keeping the lights on, so to speak. Each person on a team has a card to fill to help reach our fundraising target. Any and all donations appreciated. A social evening will take place in the Pedlar’s Rock on Saturday 14th with food, craic, ceoil and a draw with great cash prizes. You can see a QR code on a sign at the walkway where you can donate via Revolut. This should be a great weekend for all so we hope to see you there!!
