BRIDE ROVERS GAA CLUB NOTES.
HUGE HURLING WEEKEND.
Well it’s back to a big hurling Championship feast this weekend as two of our adult teams go into action and we also host a County SHC game on Sunday. Sunday is also a car Boot Sale Day- so plenty activity -sure it’s better to be busy than bored!  On Saturday evening at Ballynoe we face Fermoy in Round 3 of the County SAHC at half 6. We might stay the night there because at high noon the next day, Sunday, we will be playing Killeagh in the East Cork Junior A  Grade HC. Then at 4 o clock Pairc na Bride will host Sarsfields and Bishopstown in the Premier SHC at 4 o clock. We have a Club Executive meeting on Monday night September 9th.
SENIOR HURLING BRIDE ROVERS v FERMOY.
It’s back to Ballynoe on Saturday evening we go for our Round 3 Senior Hurling game against Fermoy.  With two wins, over Cloyne and Castlelyons, in the earlier games we face into the unknown  this weekend. We met Fermoy in a Senior League game earlier this year. That match ended in a draw -we were lucky to get that result on the night.  Since our Round 2 game training has gone well. Fermoy were defeated by Castlelyons in their opening game in Rathcormac. Since that they’ve had a good win over Cloyne. With the evenings closing in fast the starting time on Saturday evening is 6.30pm. Best of luck to the players and management ,go for it lads.
JUNIOR A GRADE HURLING. It’s high noon on Sunday in Ballynoe once more when the Junior A team take on Killeagh in our third Round Robin game in our Group. We beat Carrigtwohill and lost to Carrignavar.  With just 8 teams in the 2024 JAHC competition whether we win or lose on Sunday we’re into a Quarter Final. Carrignavar will get into the Semi-final from our Group. If we win against Killeagh on Sunday we’ll  finish 2nd and play the 3rd placed team from the other group. If we lose we’ll finish 3rd and play the 2nd place team which would likely be St. Itas.   It’s great to have games at this level for our second team so go for it lads.
SHC IN THE PITCH. At 4 o clock on Sunday we host Bishopstown and Sarsfields in the County PSHC with Aidan Hyland on the whistle. Ger Lane and his match Committee will welcome all members that can help out on the day.

REBELS BOUNTY WINNERS. We had two winners of €250 in the August Rebels Bounty Draw on Thursday night of last week. Well done to Seamus O Farrell and Tom & Anke Fitzgerald.

REBEL OG MINOR FOOTBALL. Last Wednesday Bride Rovers hosted Cobh in the final round of this years football championship
From the off Cobh showed their ability and intentions, flashing two shots wide within the first minute of play
the lads were duly warned, and indeed started playing some great football and as the short whistle sounded the referee had both teams drawing, the second half however saw our guests for the evening redouble their efforts and with the aide of the elements began to pick off scores from further out the field, the lads work rate was as good as ever but unfortunately it wasn't rewarded with scores as our guests eased out a victory on the final score Bride Rovers 2-10 Cobh 3-17
Our participation in the remaining championship now depends on other results
Match squad, Luke Harrington, Cillian O'Sullivan, Oran Kielty, Gearoid Gubbins, Jack Lynch, Conor O'Riordan, Adam Cronin, Sean Dowling, David O'Connell, Ronan Barry, Cormac Barry, Gearoid O'Connell, Shane Prendergast, Rudi Nagifwtha, Jack Mannix, Shane O'Dowd, Eanna Lyons, Matthew Kenny.
GAA 2025.
Last Sunday was the first Sunday of September, always regarded as All Ireland Hurling Final Sunday . With the Split Season that’s all changed now hat we have July All Ireland Deciders. While dissatisfaction has been expressed with dates and suggestions of change put forward it seems the GAA are not for moving. The 2025 GAA Fixtures Plan was published last week with July Final dates still in situ.

PROGRESS AT PYNE’S PITCHES.
Amazing the difference a few months make with Development work. The goalposts on our new pitch were erected a few weeks back. The second pitch has now been seeded and is looking well. Just last weeks the ball-stop nets behind the goalposts were erected so the whole complex is really taking shape. The irrigation/watering system is now also operational and this will ensure the grass stays growing even in very dry periods.
CAR BOOT SALE.
Next Sunday September the 8th will see the monthly Car Bot Sale in full swing in Rathcormac and plenty help is required on Sunday and on Saturday morning. If you can give an hour or two please contact Billy, Mossy or Tom.
UNDER 8’s IN CORK CITY. Our Under 8s went to Na Piarsaigh’s on last Saturday morning for Rebel Og Go Games in football. We entered two teams of 6 a side.  It was a great sporting occasion and  the lads were excellent. They played Blarney, Na Piarsaigh and Carrig Na bhFhear.  They were grand games and really enjoyed by all the young players.
BON VOYAGE. This week we wish safe travelling to Fr Fachtna O Driscoll SMA who returns to his Mission work in Zambia after a well-deserved holiday in Rathcormac.

The U16s qualified for the Division 1 (East) Championship semi-finals against a depleted Midleton side on Monday last.  It was a competitive first half with scores from Shane O'Dowd, Micheál Walsh & Finn O'Driscoll putting the Rovers in at the break with a nine point lead.  The second half was less competitive as the boys began to pull away with some more accurate shooting compared to the first half.  Seven players scored from play with some fine finishing throughout the midfield and forward lines.  Three goals were scored in the second half with two from Matthew Kenny and one from Con McCormack to add to Shane's goal in the first half.  The boys will now likely play Aghada in the semi-final with St Colman's and Youghal to play in the other semi-final.  The boys had already qualified directly for the Division 2 Football Semi-final a week previous with a win against Lisgoold and meet the winners of the preliminary semi-final (yet to be decided). Final Score: Bride Rovers 4-25 Midleton 0-7. Panel: Calum Somers, Darragh O'Farrell, Jamie Walsh, Donagh Hurley, Éanna Lyons, Denis Fitzgerald, Garry Quirke, Cathal Barry, Micheál Walsh, James Larkin, Shane O'Dowd, Matthew Kenny, Finn O'Driscoll, Jack Lynch, Adam Kelleher, Con McCormack, Eoghan Buckley, Robert Sweeney & Mark Hynes.
SUNFLOWER DAY. There was great turnout a the Corrin Nature Reserve on Sunday last for the Annual Sunflower Day. Well done to the organisers on providing a wonderful facility at Corrin.

BRICKEYS GO SENIOR
Last Sunday was County Final Day in the Decies. History making Ballygunner won their 11th consecutive County Senior Hurling title with an easy win over Abbeyside. Next year will see a new name in the Waterford County SHC as Brickey Rangers won the County Premier Intermediate title on Saturday defeating Clashmore. Brickeys are really on a roll winning the Co Junior title in 2021, the Intermediate last year and now the Premier IHC. Bride Rovers played Brickeys I think back in 1999 in Ardmore.  Shamrocks defeated Dunhill in their Relegation Final to keep their Intermediate status for 2025 where they’ll be joined by neighbours Tallow.

 Killeagh GAA Rory Motherway Fundraiser.
On May 20th last, Rory Motherway was driving to Killeagh to a Junior football match that his team was playing in. On the way to the match Rory lost consciousness while driving and was involved in a serious car accident which has left him with life-changing injuries. Rory has permanent spinal cord damage which results in him now having paraplegia (paralysis of his lower limbs) and being a full-time wheelchair user.
His family now need our help to make their home accessible for him and help him regain his independence.
The fundraiser for Rory is now live. Please consider clicking the link below to read the full story and donate where possible. We also ask that you share this message to all in your groups to help spread the word.
