SENIORS DRAW WITH KANTURK

MIDLETON 1-21 KANTURK 1-21

Our senior hurlers were back in championship action on Saturday night, against Kanturk in Castletownroche and what a battle it was, a game which thrilled the large attendance at the well turned out North Cork venue.

We played with the breeze in the opening half and after nine minutes the sides were level at 0-3 each, with our white flags coming from Sean O'Meara and Conor Lehane (2).

Kanturk then hit 1-2 during the next six minutes to lead by 1-5 to 0-3 after the opening quarter.

Two frees from Conor Lehane and a fine goal from play from Alex Quirke had us within a point at the 20 minute mark before Kanturk hit three in a row to lead by four after 24 minutes.

But we finished the first-half well with points from Conor Lehane (2) Mikey Finn and Cormac Beausang to ensure we went in just two behind on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-9.

Conor Lehane openined the second-half scoring before Kanturk hit the next two points of the second period before we struck back with four in a row through Luke O'Farrell (2), Conor Lehane and Eoin Moloney to put us back in the lead.

Points from Conor Lehane, Tommy O'Connell, Ross O'Regan and Eoin Moloney saw us lead by one with two minutes play and a Pa White flag doubled that advantage a minute into injury time. Kanturk struck back with two in a row to level matters before a 67th minute cracker from Cormac Beausang looked to have won it for the Magpies but the ref played on and in the 68th minute Kanturk got a leveller after which the ref called a halt to a pulsating game.

All this means that we now stand level with Kanturk on three points after two games. Next Sunday's opponents, Erins Own, have two points and Charleville are out with no points. This means that we need a draw or a win against Erins Own in Paric Uí Rinn on Sunday next to make the knockout stages. Please support the Magpies if you can in this massive game. Tickets must be purchased in advance at https://gaacork.ie/tickets/

JUVENILES

FÉ7S

Our Fé7s played host to Sarsfields on a glorious Saturday morning last in Clonmult Memorial Park and a great morning of hurling was enjoyed by all....

FÉ10S
On Saturday morning our young Magpies hosted Cobh and Valley Rovers for a hurling blitz. It was an action packed morning, where we fielded three teams and each team played four very competitive games. Great stuff boys.

FÉ12S

The victorious Midleton 1 team.

On Saturday we hosted the annual James O'Brien memorial tournament as we welcomed Courcey Rovers, Blackrock and Waterford clubs Chois Bhiride and Lismore.

The group games were played in Park South, with the finals taking place in Clonmult Memorial Park.

After a wonderful morning of hurling Midleton 1 took on Courcey Rovers in the Cup Final, with Midleton 2 taking on Chois Bhride in the Shield decider.

Both games were crackers, with Midleton coming out on top in the Cup Final and Chois Bhride prevailing in the Shield final.

The Midleton 2 team that lost out in the Shield Final.

Well done to organiser Aidan O'Donovan and co-ordinator Robbie Barry for doing a great job.

A big thank you too to the O'Brien family for supporting the event as they always do and for the four clubs for travelling.

P1 LEAGUE FINAL

Scott Dunlea running at the Sars defence during their Fé16 League Final.

On Thursday night, the Mardyke was the venue for the P1 league final against Sarsfields.

Midleton raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead through white flags from Shane O’Mahony, Scott Dunlea, Peader Egan, John O’Sullivan and Max Murphy but back came Sars with 1-2 to go in front.

A second Sars goal helped them to a narrow half-time advantage of 2-6 to 0-11.

The Magpies regained the lead midway through the second half after they rattled off three points without reply.

It was tit for that after that and even a 60th minute Sars goal couldn't split the sides as the game finished level and extra-time was needed.

After the first ten minutes they were still level, Sars 3-18 Midleton 0-27.

It was four points to one for Sars in the second period and search as the Magpies did for a levelling goal from two late '65s, it wasn't to be and Sars held out for a 3-22 to 0-28 win after a cracking encounter.

Midleton scorers: Shane O’Mahony 0-12 (0-7 f, 0-1 65), Liam Walsh, John O’Sullivan, Senan Carroll 0-3 each, Max Murphy 0-3F, Scott Dunlea 0-2, Peader Egan, Ciarán O’Brien 0-1 each.

P1 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

MIDLETON 0-20 KILTHA OG 1-14

Then on Monday night, Clonmult Memorial Park was the venue for the Fé16s' third championship game, after a loss to Sars and a win over Na Piarsaigh.

Midleton played against a very strong breeze in the opening half and the Dungourney/Castlemartyr men got off to a great start with 1-1 inside the opening four minutes.

Senan Carroll struck back for Midleton but the visitors then struck four in a row before Midleton hit four of the next five points through Shane O'Mahony, Liam Walsh, John O'Sullivan and Max Murphy and we also got four of the last five points of the opening half thanks to Shane O'Mahony (2), Cian Lawton and John O'Sullivan to go in at the break trailing by four on a score of 1-10 to 0-9.

Midleton took over at the start of the second-half with eight points in a row from, Patrick O'Dowd (2), Max Murphy, Shane O'Mahony (2), Liam Walsh, Scott Dunlea and Charlie McCarthy to see us lead by 0-17 to 1-10 with 12 minutes to play.

Kiltha Og hit the next three points to cut the lead to one but we finished the stronger with two points from John O'Sullivan and one from Shane O'Mahony to seal a good win.

This win sees us qualify for the semi-finals against Glen Rovers on September 16.

FÉ18S

P1 MINOR HURLING LEAGUE FINAL

MIDLETON 1-12 SARSFIELDS 1-11

Midleton - 2024 P1 Minor Hurling League Champions.

It was Sars who opened the brighter and raced into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead by 14 minutes before they struck for the game's opening goal a minute later to lead by five at a red-hot Mardyke on Saturday afternoon. Their lead was out to seven by 25 minutes before two Peter Barrett frees cut the deficit to five at the break.

The Sars' lead was back out to five after 36 minutes and six (1-10 to 0-7) by the end of the third quarter and it looked as if the cup was heading for Riverstown but Midleton had other ideas.

1-1 in three minutes from Peter Barrett had the gap down to two with 12 to play and there was a pep in the Magpies' step.

Two more from the excellent Peter Barrett had the sides level at 1-10 each with six to play.

Sars hit the front again before Peter Barrett made it a draw game once more before Nicky Coughlan hit the winner (his third of the day) in injury time to seal a great win for the men in Black and White.
