JUNIOR C FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

On Monday evening our junior C footballers began their championship traveling to Rathcormac to play Bride Rovers.  While numbers were tight owing to holidays and injuries we were still able to field a very strong team. Playing with the wind in the first-half we were able to manage the game very well and had a half-time lead of 1-8 to 0-4, the goal coming from a beautiful shot from Tadhg O'Leary-Hayes.

On the turnover and playing into the breeze we really stepped things up a level to play some great football and got some lovely scores. It was great to see such a mix of players from across the club showing that playing championship football is important to all members of the club and that junior C isn't just for old lads. Especially well done to Alex Howard, Niall Lang, Tadhg Bohane, Tadhg O'Leary-Hayes and Alex Moloney who all made their championship debuts for the club and contributed greatly to a very good performance.

Next Saturday evening (29th July) we will be hosting Lisgoold on the main pitch at 7.30pm in round two.

Final score Midleton 2-16 Bride Rovers 0-4

MIDLETON: David O'Brien, Alex Howard, Sean Corcoran, Daire Mooney, Colin Sunderland, Barry Fitzgerald, Niall Lang, Leslie Coughlan, Tadhg Bohane, Tadhg O'Leary-Hayes, Kieran Denihan, Alex Moloney, Gavin Reddy, Ben O'Neill, Nicky Daly-Hayes. Substitutes: Jan Haandrikman, Eoin Ferriter, Coleman Quinn and Jerome Curtin.

CHALLENGE GAMES

With our opening round of championship against Bishoptown just over a week away (Saturday week against Bishopstown in Paric Uí Rinn) our seniors had two very good workouts this week as we played good challenge games against Tipperary sides Kilruane MacDonaghs and Mullinahone.

MASTERS FOOTBALL

Well done to both teams.

FÉ14S

A big day on Saturday for our Fé14 players who were representing Cork at two different tournaments. Peadar Egan, John O'Sullivan and Liam Walsh were in action in Kilworth while Jack Cahill, Finn Cahill and Alfie Hennessy were in Wexford. Well done lads and keep up the good work.

FÉ17S

C3 LEAGUE

A good win by Midleton in Minor C3 league on Saturday in Clonmult Memorial Park against Bandon, Bandon got the first score of the game but that was the only time they led in the game, the score at the break was 3-6 to 1-5 and Midletin took up where they left off in the second half, running out easy winners in the end with a final score of Midleton 7-15 Bandon  2-10.

FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

MIDLETON 0-5 AGHADA 0-14

Aghada were the visitors to Clonmult Memorial Park on Wednesday evening for the second round robin game of this year's football championship, because of injuries and holidays Midleton were missing seven regular starters so it was always going be a massive challenge to get anything from this game. Aghada eventually ran out winners but Midleton will take a lot of positives from the game, they didn't concede a goal with Conor Morley stepping up in goals and had a good game. Midleton came close on three occasions to raising a green flag also hitting the post on a couple of occasions, they battled hard for the hour and frustrated Aghada at times with good defensive effort and work hard right up to the final whistle.

Thanks to the five Fè16s who made sure Midleton were able to fulfil the fixture, all five performing well. Next game for minors is the start of the P1 Hurling Championship next Wednesday away to Ballincollig.

GAA LEARNING PORTAL

We have been asked to remind members and especially our club coaches that the GAA Learning Portal is a great resource which is free to use. Please check it out at  http://learning.gaa.ie/about

FREE ONLINE SAFE CLUB COURSES

Liam Wade and Colemane Quirke recently attended a Safe Club prestation for East Cork clubs at Paric Uí Chaoimh and they have asked me to make you aware of some free online certified courses that are available courtesy of Midleton GAA in association with fit2trade. Please try it out. "It's Free". It's simple and straight forward and very intuitive. Get your children to learn a new life skill. Log on as you see fit and get them certified in Manual Handling / First Aid awareness etc.

As part of this we must update our Safety Statement which we'll be doing with Sean Corcoran and also we're asked to do a "Health & Safety Walk-about" of the club to identify any risks /observations and record these in a template issue by Croke Park. Subsequent to this, we'll have an audit carried out by the GAA H&S Officer Patrick O Brien (not our Pat O'Brien).

The GAA is also piloting some online Health and Safety Training and have partnered with Fit2Trade. https://www.fit2trade.com/gaa-east-cork/

Once you log on, you're guided easily through the process.

Free Training and Certification

There are some great courses on here from Manual Handling to First Aid Awareness plus many others and these are free to all our Membership. Certification follows on successful completion. These courses range generally from 5 to 45 minutes or so. They are ideal for Volunteers or Students (TY Student and others) who want to upskill and have certification. Below are some of the courses available.  I completed the First Aid one and found it interactive and informative. The cert on completion is easy to download.

CLUB HOUSE

We have a smashing club house, bar and hall, at Midleton GAA Club and don't forget that these are available to hire for functions....see below for details....
